Gareth's Great Run!!!

A good friend of the Porthdinllaen Lifeboat, Gareth Jones, is running in the Great North Run on 5th October to raise funds for our lifeboat.

Gareth is  25 years old and a former Wigan Warriors Junior and Blackpool Panthers Rugby League player. The reason he is running for the Porthdinllean lifeboat is that his Grandfather was born and brought up in Morfa Nefyn and was a member of the M.O.Y.E Lifeboat crew at Porthdinllaen in the 1940's.  His family still have a cottage in Morfa Nefyn and so a lot of his holidays are spent in the area, where he enjoys fishing and beating his dad at golf!!!

The 2008 BUPA Great North Run is being held on the 5th October 2008.  The race starts in Newcastle upon Tyne, runs through Gateshead and finishes at South Shields on the Coast.  The run is an exact half marathon, 13.1 miles.  The Great North Run is the brainchild of former Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist Brendan Foster. He was inspired with the idea for the Great North Run after he competed in the Round the Bays Race in New Zealand in 1979. Two years later the North East had its own race, which is now in the Guinness Book of Records as being the largest half marathon in the world.  The BUPA Great North Run will be live on BBC One from 9.30am until 1.30pm.

Go for it Gareth - we are all behind you ( most likely a long way behind you!)
